Harman gyára Mobberley, Cheshire in the UK
ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH and HARMAN technology Ltd (ILFORD Photo) share a long and rich history in the photographic arena and prior to 2004 were one company comprised of two main manufacturing sites:
- Marly, near Fribourg in Switzerland, the home of digital inkjet products including ILFORD GALERIE as well as traditional silver halide colour products including ILFOCHROME and ILFOCOLOR films
- Mobberley, Cheshire in the UK, where traditional black and white products were made. In 2005 the company separated with the UK based traditional black and white division being the subject of a management buyout after falling into administration.
The Swiss division, which develops and manufactures digital inkjet products continued to trade normally having a large market share and the potential for further growth. As a result of the split, the Swiss business was acquired by Japanese company, Oji Paper Group in 2005 before being bought by Paradigm Global Partners LLP in 2010.
The Swiss company and plant retained ownership of the ILFORD name and brand, while the UK operation was inaugurated under the name HARMAN technology Ltd., taken from the name of the founder of the original Britannia Works.
HARMAN technology Ltd still use the ILFORD brand name and logo under license on black and white silver halide film, paper and chemistry products but the two companies operate completely independently. The traditional black and white products can only be found on the HARMAN technology owned ILFORD Photo website.
